Myanmar’s IP rights framework was established with four core laws in 2019 (Trademark, Industrial Design, Copyright, Patent), with the Trademark Law being the only one fully implemented as of March 2023, while the other three are pending full implementation.

The Intellectual Property Department (IPD), under the Ministry of Commerce, is responsible for IP registration and protection. Significant updates include the establishment of the IPD and courts with jurisdiction over IP cases, but challenges remain, particularly in full implementation of the laws and in providing adequate IP protection for foreigners.

Types of IP Protection

  • Copyright and Related Rights
